Reports of suicide bombers in Islamabad
Islamabad, Sep 8: Days after the horrific suicide bombings in the twin city of Rawalpindi killing 25, the police are again on tenterhooks after intelligence reports warned suicide bombers had entered the capital and could target the two busiest commercial centres in the next few days.
''Intelligence agencies have warned the Interior Ministry that three suicide bombers have entered Islamabad and could target the Jinnah Super and Super Market,'' media reprts today, cited top sources as saying.
According to the sources, the suicide bombers were linked to tribal militant Baitullah Mehsud, who has earned notoriety for holding 240 troops including seven officers hostage in South Waziristan.
Taking no chances, Islamabad police had deployed special squads in and around Jinnah Super and Super Market following the warning.
The reports quoted Acting Inspector General of Islamabad Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch as confirming that the police had received a warning about the suicide bombers from the Interior Ministry.
However, he did not disclose the number of suicide bombers.
In two separate attacks, suicide bombers killed at least 25 people and injured 70 when they blew themselves up in Rawalpindi's cantonment area close to the General Headquarters (GHQ) on September 4.
