TTD inaugurates literary meet on saint-poetess

Tirupati, Aug 24: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) Trust Board Board Chairman B Karunakara Reddy today inaugurated a day's literary meet on 17th century saint-poetess Tarigonda Vengamamba at Sri Padmavathi Women's Degree college here on the occasion of her second death anniversary.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Reddy said the woman saint Vengamamba had fought against social evils and maladies, such as, social isolation of widows and discrimination against woman several years ago. She was chanting Lord Balaji's name till her last breath and TTD was contemplating to bring her literary works in limelight soon, he added.

TTD Executive officer K V Ramanachary highlighted the significance of the saint-revolutionary poetess.

SVETA Director and the organizer Bhuman said in future, such meets would be conducted in women schools.

Lectures were delivered on Vengamamb's skill in literary and spirituality.

Later in the evening, Rama Parinayam, a ballet, was performed by the artists of Sri Venkateswara College of Music and Dance.
