Written by: Staff

Puducherry, Aug 11: An official team of the Forest department here today conducted an early morning raid in the Ossudu lake area to nab poachers of migratory birds and those who catch fish from the lake.

Led by Administrative Officer Shivashanmugham, the team intercepted a school boy catching fish and a gypsy from whom they seized a country made gun. However, they were warned and let off.

The team also seized several nets spread in the lake to catch fish and a warning was sounded to all through the village panchayat.

Later, Mr Shivashanmugham told newspersons here that the administration was considering to announce Ossudu lake area as a 'protected area' and a Cabinet nod was awaited. Once they get the green signal, the total control would come under the Forest department and watch towers would be erected to check illegal activities in the area, he added.
