United States: Minneapolis bridge collapses
Minneapolis, Aug 2: A bridge carrying a four-lane state highway in Minneapolis collapsed during rush hour yesterday, with cars, trucks and a school bus falling into the Mississippi River.
The bridge carrying Route 35W buckled and fell into the river at about (4.40 IST). Over the past several months the bridge was being repaired, with workers closing a lane or two at a time.
Eyewitnesses said they heard a rumbling sound as the bridge collapsed into the river. Local media reported 20 to 30 injuries but initially no deaths.
