Ericsson bags $2 bln network expansion contract

New Delhi, July 18: Ericsson today said it has secured New Delhi, July 18: Ericsson today said it has secured $2 billion contract from Bharti Airtel for expanding its GSM/EDGE network and providing capacity management.

Under the two years supply and services contract, Ericsson will design and manage Airtel's GSM network across 15 circles in the country as well as for its pan India prepaid platform across 23 circles.

The expansion is in line with Bharti Airtel's objective to offer cost effective telecom products and services to its customers across the country and to reach in rural India.

''Our partnership with Ericcson will allow us to focus on delivering better customer experience leveraging Ericsson global expertise to enhance our network,'' Bharti Airtel President and CEO Manoj Kohli told reporters here.

Ericssion has being a strategic partner of Bharti since 1995 and manages around 70 per cent of GSM network in 15 circles across the country.
