Six new medical colleges for Karnataka

New Delhi, July 10: Union Health Minister Anbumoni Ramadoss has assured to clear the sanctions to all the six Government medical colleges in Karnataka, paving way for 600 additional seats for the students in these colleges, Karnataka Health Education Minister V S Acharya said here today.

An assurance to this effect was given to a delegation, led by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Health Education Minister and former union minister V Dhananjay Kumar this evening.

Formal orders are expected tomorrow.

The sanctioned colleges are the medical colleges in Mandya, Belgam, Hassan which were pending clearance from the Medical Council of India (MCI) for the second year.

The new colleges that are getting the sanction are the ones in Shimoga and Raichur. The MCI had already cleared the medical college in Bidar, Mr Acharya told UNI tonight.

Karnataka MPs K B Shanappa and Karunakara Reddy were in the delegation that met Dr Ramadoss.
