Mumbai, Jun 16: The growth achieved in the last three years is realistic and inclusive, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said here today. Speaking at a book signing session, the Finance Minister reiterated ''The country's economic growth in the last three years from 7.5 per cent to 9 and to 9.5 per cent was not an accident, in fact it had been taken for granted.'' He asserted that if the high growth was not inclusive enough, the low growth will be more non-inclusive.

Reading out the extract from his book 'A View From The Outside', he said ''Poverty is not a badge of honour, it is a stain that must be wiped out. We need a people-friendly economic and social policy.

And, of course, it is obvious that some will rise first and some will a little latter.'' ''Food is basic to human existence, yet we are unwilling to pay fair and reasonable prices for the food we consume,'' he said.

The key to removal of rural poverty is agricultural prices. A mature and civilised nation must cherish its agriculture and protect its farmer, he added.

Making a call to the youth of the country, he said '' I want more and more educated youth in the country to understand the growth and its criticality.''
