Buta Singh new head of National Comm for SC

New Delhi, May 30: Former Bihar Governor Buta Singh has been appointed Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes(NCSC), a post filled after a vacuum of three months.

This is Mr Singh's first official assignment after he had to resign a few months back following the Supreme Court strictures against him in the context of the President's rule in Bihar imposed on his recommendation.

Mr Singh, whose appointment takes effect from May 25, has taken over the charge, a senior official said here.

The Commission has also been given a vice chairman in Mr Narendra M Kamble.

Three new Members have also been appointed. They are Ms Satyaben, Mr Mahinder Baudh and Mr Mritunjay Nagraj.

The term of the last Commission, which went headless for a long period following the death of its chairman Mr Suraj Bhan in harness, had expired in February.
