Thiruvananthapuram, May 29: Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today said the only achievement of the one-year-old Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the state was that it brought the administration to a 'standstill.' The factionalism in the CPI(M), which heads the government, had come out in the open leading to the suspension of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan from the party Polit Bureau, he said, while participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Press Club here.

It was for the CPI(M) central leadership to clarify whether it was proper on the part of Mr Achuthanandan, who was given a punishment for indiscipline, to head the government in the state.

The factionalism had seriously affected the functioning of the administration, he added.

The LDF Government could not take credit for the Smart City project at Kochi as it was Mr Achuthanandan, as the Leader of the Opposition, who was instrumental in delaying the project for two years. There was also no transparancy in the signing of the agreement, he said.

In respect of Munnar eviction drive, except demolishing certain structures, there was no effort from the government to recover land from the encroachers. The United Democratic Front would soon come out with a list of party leaders, who illegally possessed land in Munnar, he added.
