NSHM-JU tie-up for Pharma Product Mngt course

Kolkata, May 12: West Bengal Health and Family Welfare and Biotechnology Minister Dr Suryakanta Mishra today stressed the need for young people in the phramacy industry to be well versed in new researches in the country.

Announcing the introduction of a Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Product Management(PGDPPM) here, principal of NSHM College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions Dr Subhashish Maity said this course aims at training BSc, BParma and MBBS students to efficiently cope up with the changing world of Pharmacy in our country and help doctors, companies and other people in the medical field to understand the changes better.

'' Many people entering the industry are not well versed with the formulations under research. This course would equip them to face the challenges of the emerging market,'' Mr Maity said.

''This course will be jointly certified by NSHM College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions and the Jadavpur University Centre for Advanced Research in Pharmacy Sciences(CARP), he said.

On this occasion, Mr Mishra spoke at length about how a person's genes shapes his peronality and and health conditions and how his stem cells control the activity of the genes. Genes carry ones personality and physical traits through generations.

''Gene Therapy and Nano Technology can now help medical science to effectively understand the problem within a human body and in turn collaborate their efforts with Pharmacy Sciences and pharmaceutical companies to come to the aid of patients all across the country,'' he added.

Jadavpur University Department of Pharmaceutical and Technology Professor and course co-ordinator Dr A K Bandhopadhyay said, ''The people in this field are presently unequipped in dealing with the changing scenario of pharmacy sciences and this course is intended to train young bio-science and medical science graduates to properly understand the changes, interact with medical representatives, learn the expertese in advertising and placement management of the products coming up in the future.'' ''The 18-month PGDPPM course is a three-semester evening course to enable people already working in the field to study while they work,'' Mr Maity said, adding that the initial intake of candidates would be 60 and the course would begin in September.

Other dignitaries present on the occassion were Managing Director East India Phramacy Dipankar Dutta Gupta and Drug Controller, West Bengal Government, Sajal Rai Chowdhury who also spoke on the occassion.
