Support from various quarters for Dec 14 strike
Bangalore, Dec 12: The Left parties, JD(S) Sindhia faction, Sarvodaya Karnataka Party (SKP) and CITU have extended support to the proposed nationwide strike call given by central trade unions for December 14.
Addressing a joint press conference here, CPI(M) State Secretary G N Nagaraj, CPI State Secretariat member H V Anantha Subba Rao, SKP Working President K S Puttannaiah and former Minister P G R Sindhia said the central trade unions have given the strike call in protest against the UPA Government's ''anti-labour'' policies.
Mr Nagaraj charged the UPA Government with continuing the ''anti-people and anti-labour'' policies adopted by the previous NDA Government, despite the Left parties raising strong objections. The prices of food items have risen sharply due to the ''wrong'' economic policies adopted by the UPA Government at the instance of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. This had severely affected the weaker sections of the society.
Mr Sindhia said his party would support the Left parties both at the national and State level and chalk out strategies to fight against the Congress and communal parties.
State CITU leader C G K Nair said all industrial workers, both from the public and private sectors, Central and State Government employees, and farm workers would join the stir.
