Islamabad, Aug 29: Iran Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari today briefed Pakistani leaders on his country's response to the P5+1 package offered to Tehran on the nuclear issue.

Mr Safari, who arrived here yesterday, called on Foreign Minister Khurshid M Kasuri and Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan, foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam said in a statement here.

''The Deputy Foreign Minister briefed the Foreign Minister and the Foreign Secretary on Iran's response to the P5+1 package, which had been offered to Iran on the nuclear issue,'' Ms Aslam said.

Mr Safari stressed that while Iran would not accept preconditions, they were open to discuss all issues with a view towards their resolution through negotiations.

Mr Kasuri and Mr Khan reiterated Pakistan's principled position on this issue that all parties should adhere to their international obligations and their rights should also be respected.

They said Pakistan had always supported negotiations for a peaceful resolution, adding Islamabad was also against any coercive measures or use of force, which would only endanger regional security and stability.

Both sides agreed that the decisions already taken to enhance bilateral trade and to strengthen economic ties between the two neighbouring countries had laid a foundation towards this objective and that steps for further implementation would be carried out.
