Sensex strong by 58 pts in the opening move

Mumbai, Aug 25: The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened 58 points in the green at 11,589.35 and is currently trading at 11,590.26, which is 59 points more than the previous close.

Strong buying in the select blue chip companies intensified the positivity on the BSE, which was led by SBI, HDFC and ICICI banks and other PSU scrips.

Midcap was up by 1.21 per cent and the Smallcap was up by 1.38 per cent.

Amongst the sectoral indices, the Consumer Durables segment was up by 1.87 per cent, Banking was up by 1.37 per cent, PSU by 1.28 per cent, Metals by 1.20 per cent and Auto by 0.79 per cent.

Major gainers on the index were SBI, Hero Honda, Reliance Energy, Tata Steel, ONGC, ICICI Bank, Hindalco, Grasim industries,L&T and HDFC all up between 0.64 to 3.78 per cent.

Besides, the losers on the index are HDFC Bank, Reliance Communications, Wipro, NTPC and ITC all down between 0.08 per cent and 1.15 per cent.

Key benchmark indices in Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan were up between 0.25 - 1.23 per cent.
