Afghan students 'missing' from Kerala
Kozhikode, Aug 9; Two Afghan students, who came to India for higher studies under a special aid programme announced by the Prime Minister, were reported missing from the Calicut University Guest House.
Hyder Nazer Lehghan and Abdul Hakeem, staying at the guest house since July 24, were missing from the begining of this month according to a complaint registered by the university authorities with Tehjippalam Police, Malappuram Superintendent of Police Tarun Kumar said.
Emigration authorities and airports in the country were alerted on the missing students who had not yet sought exit visas.
As many as 21 students were staying at the guest house under the scholarship announced as part of aid package by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to the trouble-torn nation.
500 Afghan students were granted scholarships to study in various institutions in the country.
