JKHC tells media to stop publishing unconfirmed reports

Srinagar, July 6 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today once again asked the media to abstain from publishing unconfirmed and unverified reports regarding the sex racket case even as it granted further one week to the CBI to collect evidence and concretize action against all the accused in the scandal.

A division bench, comprising Justice Bashir Ahmed Kirmani and Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain, which is monitoring the CBI investigations into the flesh trade scandal, sought the personal appearance of the Editor and the Publisher of ''Daily Tameeli Irshad'' on the next date of hearing in the case on July 12 for publishing an ''unconfirmed'' report in the newspaper on July 4.

The court took strong notice of some unconfirmed reports published in the media which had resulted in undue harassment to the people concerned.

A newspaper cutting of the ''Daily Tameeli Irshad'' on July 4 carrying a report related to the sex racket case was produced before the bench. The CBI DIG present in the court denied having given any such statement to the media.

The bench asked the Editor and the Publisher of ''Daily Tameeli Irshad'' to furnish the requisite clarification regarding the report carried by the newspaper on July 4.

''We may reiterate our observation of May 15 that the media should abstain from publishing unconfirmed and unverified reports regarding the sex racket case,'' the court ordered.
