BJP deplores petrol hike, threatens agitation
New Delhi, June 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today strogly deplored the price hike on petrol and diesel without duty restructuring and said it would launch a nationwide protests to oppose the unreasonable hike that would have cascading effect on the prices of essential commodities and inflation.
BJP Spokesman Parakash Javadekar said the government had failed to realise that 50 per cent of costs are levied by the states as taxes and the government had done nothing to reduce this burden.
"We will launch a agitation throughout the country to protest the hike", he said, in his initial party reaction to the government announcement making petrol dearer by Rs 4 a litre and diesel by Rs 2.
