Israel welcomes Quartet decision on Palestinian aid
JERUSALEM, May 10: Israel today welcomed a decision by West Asia peace brokers to set up a new mechanism to channel aid directly to the Palestinians, a step that could ease economic pressure on the Hamas-led government.
''As far as we are concerned, the Quartet's decision to give further humanitarian support to the Palestinian Authority, bypassing the Hamas government, is definitely okay,'' Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said on Army Radio.
