Centre has agreed to form a Committee on Kashmir: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, May 5 (UNI) Moderate Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said the Centre has decided to form a Committee which will find ways and means to resolve the vexed Kashmir issue.

Addressing a Friday congregration at the historic Jama Masjid here, the Mirwaiz also said that talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on May 3 were frank and fruitful.

''The talks with the Prime Minister were frank and fruitful. Both sides agreed to evolve a mechanism and discuss specifics to ensure forward movement in the ongoing dialogue process,'' he added.

At the meeting, the Hurriyat Chairman said, the Prime Minister agreed to all the suggestions put forth by the separatist amalgam and decided to form a Committee which will find ways and means to resolve the vexed Kashmir issue.

The Mirwaiz also said that another round of talks with the Prime Minister would be held if the Centre and the Hurriyat Conference succeeded in formation of respective teams within a fixed timeframe.

About the Hurriyat Conference's participation in the May 25 round-table conference in Srinagar, he said the amalgam leaders would not like to be the part of a ''crowd''.

However, Mirwaiz Farooq said the Hurriyat Conference has not taken a final decision on its participation in the round-table conference as yet.

''We are waiting for the specifics. The Hurriyat Conference has not taken any decision yet,'' he added.
