Jammu, May 2: Life came to a standstill in Jammu city and its adjoining districts today as a bandh was observed against the massacre of 35 Hindus in Udhampur and Doda districts.

The bandh call in Jammu was given by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Other political parties also called for a bandh call in Bhaderwah and Doda districts in protest against the attacks.

In Jammu city, shops, offices, establishments and educational institutions remained closed. The private transporters who operate mini buses and matadors in the city also observed the strike, bringing life to total 'halt'.

The major 'tawi bridge' which links the eastern and western parts of the city was blocked by the Doda migrants, resulting in traffic jams on both sides of the bridge since morning.

Reports received from the Kathua, Poonch, Udhampur, Rajauri and Doda districts says a total bandh was observed.

In Bhaderwah and Doda towns, life was crippled due to the bandh.

A joint protest march was also taken out by Muslims and Hindus in coordination with BJP and other political outfits. They also burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and shouted anti-administration slogans.
