Hunger strike against review of Narmada project
Surat, Apr 15: To protest against the Central government's move to review the height of the Sardar Sarovar dam on Narmada river, various trade, industrial and commercial organisations and NGO groups will collectively observe a hunger strike here tomorrow.
The hunger strike, to be held at Rang Upvan, will begin at about 1000 hrs and end at 1700 hrs.
Various organisations participating in the strike include Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce (SGCC), Surat Citizen's Council and Saurashtra Jaladhara Trust.
A meeting was held at the Chamber today to discuss the issue, in which various organisations expressed their concern.
SGCC president Dileep N Chasmawala said the Chamber was not against any individual, but the enormity of the issue was so vast that the people of entire Saurashtra and North Gujarat region would be affected. Therefore, it was important to give support to the cause.
