New Delhi, Apr 14 (UNI) National Commission for Minorities (NCM) today submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh its report on last week's communal violence in Aligarh that claimed the lives of six people.

''The report was submitted to the Prime Minister,'' NCM chairperson Mohammad Hamid Ansari told UNI.

The Commission had sent a fact-finding team to Aligarh for an on-the-spot inquiry into the riots.

''Our team visited the affected areas, met the people and officials of the district administration,'' Mr Ansari said.

Asked who was found responsible for the violence, he said the task before the team was not to fix responsibility but to ascertain the factual position.

He, however, refused to divulge the contents of the report saying it was a matter between the Commission and the government.

Communal violence broke out in the city during the Ramnavami celebrations on April 6.

Mr Ansari, a former diplomat who took over as NCM chairperson last month, had voiced the need for an investigative machinery for the Commission on the lines of the National Human Rights Commission to perform its functions more effectively.
