Fresh tension after killing of BJP MLA's son comes to light

Lucknow, Apr 10 (UNI) Fresh tension erupted in the riot-hit Aligarh town this morning after the body of an ''unidentified'' youth buried yesterday, was found to be that of the son of BJP MLA Devkinandan Kori.

Police had earlier buried the body of Triloki alias Vicky, 25, terming him as ''unidentified.'' He was killed in the police firing on April eight last in the curfew-bound Sasnigate area.

The body was exhumed this morning and was handed over to the father Devkinanadan Kori, BJP MLA from Sasni in the nearby Mahamayanagar (Hathras) district.

The BJP supporters have gathered in large numbers at different places in Aligarh and were raising slogans against a police official who they allege is behind the incident.

State Principal Secretary (Home) S K Agarwal and Director General of Police Bua Singh admitted the administrational lapse in identifiying the body.

The officials told mediapersons here that a probe has been ordered to detect the lapses and to find out what Vicky was doing in the curfew-bound area.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Keshri Nath Tripathi demanded immediate suspension of the police official involved in the incident and alleged that Inspector General of Police (Kanpur Zone) had conspired in burying the body.

On the other hand IG Riwan Ahmed, while admitting lapses in identifying the body, said police opted for burial after confusion prevailed over identification.

''During post-mortem we found the body was circumcised. It also had Om tatooed on the right arm... there was a kaleva (sacread tied after a hindu religious ceremony) on the left hand'', he claimed.

Meanwhile, curfew imposed in parts of Aligarh after Thursday's communal flare up continued for the fifth day today.

Police said curfew in Delhi Gate, Sasni Gate and Kotwali police station areas continued. ''Since a new team of district and police officials have taken over, we cannot relax curfew though the situation is fast returning to normal,'' Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Law and Order Padman Singh told UNI over phone from Aligarh.

In view of the sensitive situation, the district administration has banned the entry of political leaders into Aligarh. ''There are chances of the law and order situation getting out of control,'' Mr Singh added.

The two-member high-level committee comprising Principal Secretary (Agriculture) Arun Kumar Mishra and DG Police Headquarters S K Rizvi, to probe the outbreak of communal violence has started its job. It has been asked to submit report within a week.

At least 200 persons had so far been arrested in connection with the communal flare up, while a compensation of Rs five lakh each has been announced to the kin of the deceased by the state government.

An additional Rs 2.5 lakh compensation was announced by the Centre.

Taking serious note of the violence, Uttar Pradesh government has already suspended six officers inlcuding DM R K Singh, SSP Ajay Anand, SP City S K Verma, ADM Satya Bhan, Circle Officer M P Singh and an SHO.

Bhuvanesh Kumar and Akhil Kumar had been posted as the new DM and SSP respectively.

Rapid Action Force (RAF), Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and civil police have been strengthened to control the situation, an official spokesman said.
