Banking services affected as SBI staff goes on strike

Chandigarh, Apr 4 (UNI) Banking services were affected in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh after SBI employees went on an indefinite strike from today, demanding revision of pension at 50 per cent of the last pay drawn and provision of family pension at par with other banks.

Talking to UNI here All India State Bank Officer's Federation president Amar Pal said complete strike was observed in all its 640 branch offices in the region.

He said the indefinite strike being observed on the call of the All India State Bank Officer's Federation (AISBOF) and All India State Bank Staff Federation (AISBSF) would only be called off after the government agreed to their demands.

The employees are demanding revision of pension at 50 per cent of the last pay drawn, provision of family pension at par with other banks and index linked DA on pension at par with the industry.

Mr Amar Pal said around 15,000 employees of the SBI upto the rank of Additional General Manager (AGM), which includes 4,500 officers are on indefinite strike in the region.

He said, ''On April 5 union members are going to Delhi to meet Chief Labour Commissiner to discuss the issue.'' The employees also held a demonstration outside the main branch of the SBI here and raised slogans against the central government.
