20 pc decline in sale of poultry products: CLFMA
Mumbai, Feb 22 (UNI) Expressing deep concern over the drop in nationwide sale of poultry products by 20 per cent, Compounded Livestock Feed Manufacturing Association of India (CLFMA) has, however, welcomed the proactive measures taken by both the Centre and the State governments in restricting the spread of birdflu.
Meanwhile, Venkateshwara Hatcheries chairperson Anuradha Desai has also pointed out that the daily demand for chicken is around one crore kg and 11 crore eggs in the country and said around 55,000 poultry farmers have been hit and and are facing losses, and with the rising temperatures more birds would die.
At a meeting convened here today, CLFMA which has over 50 members also expressed confidence that the industry would bounce back soon and ''overcome this setback.'' The association members commended the steps taken by the Central and the State governments to contain the disease in the Navapur taluka of Nandurbar district of Maharashtra bordering Gujarat.
Extending support in every possible way, CLFMA Chairman Bharat Tandon said, ''CLFMA regards quality and hygiene as the most important aspects of its value proposition, which is also imperative to the healthy growth of the industry.'' CLFMA member and Godrej Agrovet Managing Director C K Vaidya called for a concerted effort on bio-security measures to be taken at chicken farms by creating awareness in the area of basic farm management.
''This includes sanitation procedures for all possible carriers of diseases, pro-active vaccination of birds and precautionary measures to safeguard farmers' health by making available essentials like gloves, gumboots and masks. This will ensure that we do not have such a situation in the future,'' he noted.
Today's meeting was convened to take stock of the birdflu reports and its likely impact on the industry. various sectors of the poultry industry attending it.
Representatives of poultry associations, including the All India Poultry Breeders Association, Poultry Federation of India and Poultry Processors Association of India also attended the meeting.
