Pics: Vijayamma visits Cyclone Phailin-hit areas in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, Oct 17: YSR Congress party honorary president and Jagan Mohan Reddy's mother YS Vijayamma on Wednesday toured in the Cyclone Phailin-hit Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh.

Vijayamma visited the submerged orchards and fields in the worst-affected Palasa and Icchapuram assembly constituencies in the district.

According to reports, Vijayamma demanded the government to pay adequate compensation to the people for all the losses. She also expressed grief over the plight of farmers and fishermen, who were badly hit by the cyclone.

She also said that YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced several schemes for fishermen and he would implement them once he comes to power.

According to the official estimates, coconut plantations in 3,219 hectares suffered damages due to the cyclone besides paddy and horticulture crops like cashew.

Vijayamma arrived in Vishakhapatnam from Hyderabad and reached Srikakulam district by 9 am, to undertake a tour of the flood-hit areas in Srikakulam district.

Soon after landing at the Vishakhapatnam airport, Vijayamma left for Srikakulam by road to visit the flood-affected areas.

Scores of party workers and YSR supporters welcomed Vijayamma at Ichchapuram.

Vijayamma called upon the party rank and vowed to stand by the flood affected victims and participate in the rescue operations.

Vijayamma also consoled the people in cyclone-affected areas. She examined the damage caused by the Cyclone Phailin.

She is likely to stay in Srikakulam district to cover Sompeta, Kaviti and other segments today.

She is also scheduled to visit Kanchali, Pedda Kojjariya, Judipudi, Rajupram, Jagathi, Iddivanipalem, Kalingapatnam, Talatampara and Bharuva today.

Vijayamma will meet the flood victims and inquire about the rescue and rehabilitation work.

She, along with other YSRCP leaders, would assess the damages to make a representation to the State and Centre seeking compensation.
