'Women not meant for making speeches' says Kerala politician

In an audio recording doing the rounds a Kerala politician is heard saying his party colleague was not allowed to make a speech since she was a woman. Muslim league party's state secretary M C Mayin Haji even justified his statement while talking to the media.

The audio recording is from an event of the Muslim league party that was held last week. At about 10 PM the party's women's wing President and veteran member Kamarunissa Anwar rose to address the gathering. She was sharing the dias with other members of the party. It was then that Mayin Haji is reported to have said, " It is not in the league's tradition for women to speak to men. Women do not address public gatherings".

The man even tried to justify his statement when a television channel questioned him over the audio recording. "Women are allowed to speak to a specific audience like a delegation but not make speeches to a public gathering", he said

The woman politician in question, Kamarunissa Anwar chose to say she was saddened by the comment but everyone had the freedom to speak whatever they wanted to while talking to media persons.
