Srinagar, Oct 17: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra has not been asked to resign from his post, an informed source said Friday, dismissing media reports that the central government has asked him to step down.

"No, Vohra has not been asked to put in his papers. There is no move to change the Jammu and Kashmir governor at this stage," an informed source told IANS.

Vohra is presently running his second five-year term as the state governor.

There have been media reports in New Delhi and here that Lieutenant General Atta Husnain (retd), who held many important assignments in the Valley, including as the GOC of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, had been tipped to be the next state governor.

The state is scheduled to go to polls in December this year.

"This is no time to plan the state governor's change," the source told IANS.
