J&K govt's special secretary found dead in Srinagar hotel

Srinagar, Sept 24: The Jammu and Kashmir government's special secretary, Science and Technology department, was on Monday found dead in a hotel in the capital Srinagar.

According to reports, 50-year-old Rakesh Gupta, who hailed from Jammu's Channi area, was found dead in his official residence in Hotel Kong Posh yesterday morning. The door of his hotel room was reportedly open.

"Gupta's body was found by a hotel employee at around 7am when he went to clean the room", police officials said.

Police officials said that no injury marks were found on Gupta's body and no weapon was found.

"Postmortem has been conducted and the report will help us in ascertaining the facts," officials said.

50-year-old Rakesh Gupta was found dead in his hotel room in Srinagar.

In a statement, General Secretary, Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) Association, Dr G N Itoo expressed gratitude to the government and the administration for prompt response in making arrangements for air lifting of the body from Srinagar to Jammu.

A condolence meeting was held in the Civil Secretariat premises yesterday afternoon.

Gupta's body was handed over to his family members for his last rites.

A case of suspicious death has been registered under Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code(IPC).
