Bengaluru, March 17: Naomi was forced to relinquish her Smackdown Women’s Championship. This was an abrupt end to a certain superstar's rise to fame.
Due to a knee injury suffered by her, she had no choice but to surrender the title to the General Manager, Daniel Bryan. Thereafter, Alexa Bliss competed in a championship match against Becky Lynch to become a two-time champion on the blue brand.
The injury suffered by Naomi was a serious one according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter which could sideline him for weeks. While performing the split-legged moon sault during her match at Elimination Chamber, she botched the move due to excitement which led to the injury.
The earlier planning with the women’s championship match at Wrestlemania involved Naomi. She was supposed to defend the title in her hometown of Orlando, Florida. In fact, this was the sole reason why she received a big push ahead of the biggest stage of the year. After working hard for 8 long years, she has earned the right to hold the title for the very first time.
Her fans are much disappointed with her absence, probably thinking that they might not see her at Wrestlemania. But, according to a report from cagesideseats.com, she will be in shape for fighting in time for Wrestlemania. This is not a concrete news, though.
Alexa Bliss will continue with her momentum during this entire Wrestlemania season. If Naomi gets medically cleared by the WWE doctors then she might make a quick return from the injury to claim her title shot since she was never pinned to lose it.
As for now, no updates were given by the WWE in recent times since there’s no certainty with her appearance. A fatal-5-way match for the Smackdown women’s championship was announced to take place at Wrestlemania.
The injury of Naomi might have given a major headache to the Smackdown creative since they can’t go with a planned scenario. However, the women’s division on the blue brand has depth and they should be able to deliver a big time marquee match on April 2nd.
