Mexico City, Oct 4: Alberto Del Rio's bad days are continuing. After getting released by the WWE in the month of September, he joined the Lucha Underground under the AAA banner.
But, he could not compete at the first-ever mega event of the show because of an unfortunate assault took place.
As per the reports, Del Rio was dining in a restaurant prior to catching his flight for the AAA event. As seen in the below picture, Del Rio received multiple wounds to his head and hand and was taken to the medical facility. We don't yet know who the criminals were and what the motive was behind this attack.
Del Rio also released an official statement which said:
“Mr. Rodriguez ("Alberto El Patron") shortly after eating a meal before his flight was assaulted by a criminal with a knife outside the restaurant.
Mr. Rodriguez suffered multiple lacerations on his arm and other parts of his body defending against the criminal as Police were called by witnesses.
Mr. Rodriguez received medical attention and went back to the Police Department and was unable to make his flight.
Mr. Rodriguez has spoken with the ownership of Lucha Libre AAA World Wide and given them documentation of the incident.
Mr. Rodriguez greatly regrets not being there yesterday for his fans in Mexico and promises to everyone he will make this up as soon as possible.
Despite the graphic lacerations Mr. Rodriguez will not miss any of his shows for the remainder of the year and is ready to compete for this weekend in the UK. “
Del Rio was scheduled to take part in the main event of The Lucha Underground show Heroes Immortals event. But, he could not show up due to this incident.
The organizers of the show were also unaware of his situation and released a statement declaring their frustration. But, after knowing the circumstances they are likely to issue an apology statement.
As stated in Del Rio's statement, he will be available for wrestling in the United Kingdom as a part of the AAA promotion.
It will be for the second time within a couple of weeks that he will be heading towards the UK for wrestling shows. We wish a speedy recovery for the Mexican Aristocrat.
