Texas, Dec 19: With the Royal Rumble PPV, we kick off the Wrestlemania season. There’s always been some excitement with this PPV which deals with uncertainty and we love it.
This year, the anticipation is much bigger since it is the 30th anniversary of the event and it’s returning to Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
More than 65000 plus people are expected for the event to take place on January 29th, 2017. Also, we are expecting big names for the show.
The name we are getting most rumours with is none other than Shawn Michaels since it’s in his home city of San Antonio. 20 years ago in this venue, his 'boyhood dreams’ came true.
As reported earlier, WWE is still trying to bring him in a certain capacity for making a special appearance.
The ace wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer tried to throw some lights on the Heart Break Kidd’s role in the Rumble event.
According to him, he will be in a role of 'special ring enforcer’ for the event. It may turn out to be for a special guest referee’s role in the event. If Triple H vs. Seth Rollins happens at that night then there are certain possibilities of him being involved in the match.
This is what Meltzer had to offer: “He’s been real adamant to everyone that he doesn’t want to wrestle again. As far as being on the [Royal Rumble] show in some form, I think that there’s a good chance of that.
"If it’s me, and it’s San Antonio, and, he grew up there, I would try to figure out a way for him to be on the show.
"Obviously, wrestlers always change their mind, but even a couple of months ago, I know people who talked to him, and he does not want to ever wrestle again.”
As per earlier reports, he was supposed to be in a match against AJ Styles for the World Heavyweight championship.
But, he is not willing to come out of retirement and hence, we might get Undertaker as Styles’ opponent.
Apart from Michaels, WWE is trying to bring another Texas Legend, Stone Cold Steve Austin in some capacity.
With big names waiting for confirmation next year’s Rumble event is going to be one of the biggest, so far. Goldberg and Brock Lesnar have already been announced for the 30 man Rumble match.
