Bengaluru, Aug 24: Last night's (August 23) Smackdown was taped from Connecticut. Since the huge WWE Draft took place last month on the July 19, rumours were flying around that WWE is bringing new championships for the Women’s division as well as for the tag team division.
However, The Smackdown General Manager and Commissioner both assured the fans that they are going to bring in new championships but it will take some time.
Apparently, the WWE creative saw the right moment on yesterday’s Smackdown as we are going to have the first ever brand specific PPV, Backlash on September 11. They came up with the brand new tag team championship title and the WWE Women’s title for the Smackdown division.
The show kicked off with the tag team division and the Women’s division standing inside the middle of the ring. The General Manager, Daniel Bryan and the Commissioner, Shane McMahoncame down to the ramp to give us the first preview of the newly born championships. The tag team division and the Women’s division were all excited about the fact. With this move from them, Smackdown finally gets to match up with WWE’s flagship show of Raw.
The show-runners also decided to who will get the chance to compete for the new championship belts. The Smackdown Women’s championship will be decided via a six pack challenge at the returning Backlash PPV (September 11).
Though, particular names were not specified by them. The 6 women who are going to participate in the match are supposed to be Becky Lynch, Natalya, Carmella, Alexa Bliss, Naomi, and Natalya.
In the case of the tag team titles, there will be a tournament taking place on the show to give us the two teams who will go on to face each other for the championship.
Already two teams - The Uso brothers and the American Alpha had advanced in the tournament. We will get another 2 teams on next week’s Smackdown on August 30.
The returning Backlash PPV will take place at the Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia, on the above-mentioned date.
