Bengaluru, April 30: Roman Reigns is absent from WWE TV for almost three weeks. He suffered a brutal assault at the hands of Braun Strowman. The onslaught attack was so nasty that he was stretchered out of the arena to the medical facility.
Later, WWE.com confirmed that he suffered a cracked rib and a separated shoulder following the attack.
However, the Raw General Manager announced that despite the injury he will be in action at Payback. This will be his redemption against Braun Strowman.
Now, recent rumours from various sources suggested that Braun's attack was a pre-taped one. Roman Reigns did not suffer an injury, at all. It is only being shown as a kayfabe injury. There's a strong reason behind it.
As per reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Braun Strowman will be the first in line for challenging Brock Lesnar for his Universal title.
Before that, he needs to get a big push. That will come in the form of a win against Reigns at Payback PPV.
Hence, his loss his loss will be shown as a result of premature return from the devastating shoulder injury.
Here's what the source had to offer, exactly: “So [Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns] is the main event. The idea is that Reigns comes back quick, so he's got his excuse when he loses, and then he loses, then Strowman gets Lesnar."
That might happen at this year's Summerslam when these two collide in another match with an added stipulation.
Quite significantly, Roman Reigns was absent from WWE Raw, this week, too. WWE is trying hard to protect him from the negative fan backlash that has grown bigger after he pinned the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. But, the insane booing should continue when he returns at Payback, tonight.
