New Delhi, July 23: AJ Styles is the current United States Champion on Smackdown Live. He has won the title at a live event hosted at the Madison Square Garden Arena by defeating Kevin Owens.

The rematch for the title is set to take place at the Battleground PPV where the fans can get to witness another dream contest between these two.

Now, it's almost certain that Styles is not going to drop the title to Owens, this early. So, he will definitely walk out of Philadelphia with the title around his waist.

This brings us to the question that who his next challenger is going to be. Being the 'face that runs the place', he will be given a mega match for sure.

According to the reports of Bryan Alvarez from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, John Cena is the most probable opponent for him.

In a recent edition of Smackdown Live, the franchise of the company came face to face with the champion to tease the same. He appeared in the ring by accepting the US Open challenge thrown by Styles.

Since this contest never happened due to interference, the source suggests that Cena vs. Styles has the most chances to happen at the biggest event of the summer. However, we should remember that this was the same lineup during last year's Summerslam, as well.

Plus, at the Royal Rumble PPV, we have already witnessed the third edition of this dream match between these two globally acclaimed superstars. So, the original chances of WWE creative rooting for this one contest are somehow less.

Although the crowd will not be unhappy to see this contest, the writers of Smackdown would not want to repeat the lineup. Hence, the chances are that John Cena will rather go after Jinder Mahal to claim his WWE Championship match at Summerslam.

On the other hand, Shinsuke Nakamura will become the number one contender for Styles' title following his win against Baron Corbin. The tease has already been made on Smackdown after he demanded a shot at the US title. It means that we will get to see a preponed marquee match that was originally scheduled for next year's Wrestlemania.
