WWE: Facts and big planning around John Cena post-No Mercy PPV

By Raja

Bengaluru, Oct 8: John Cena has been the franchise player for the company for almost 10 long years. Lately, he's been on a changing role who is more concerned to look out for the television and filming campaigns and less of wrestling actions.

Starting from last year onwards he is taking random hiatus from WWE TV due to his other commitments.

This is the reason why he has stepped aside from the main event scene to make a way for the next generation. As reported previously Cena will be featuring in the main event of a PPV at No Mercy after one and a half year later. It was a triple threat match at Royal Rumble 2015 when he featured in the main event scenario.

As noted by Reddit user FormerHardcoreChamp, Cena has not won in a PPV singles contest in over a year. It was last year at the Night of Champions PPV when he picked up his last PPV win against Seth Rollins to regain the United States Championship. Since then he competed only in 4 PPV events.

Below are the results

Hell in a cell 2015 - against Alberto del Rio (lost the US Championship)

Money in the Bank 2016 - against AJ Styles (lost)

Battleground 2016 - against The Club (won in tag team contest with Enzo and Cass)

Summerslam 2016 - against AJ Styles (lost)

He is scheduled to feature in the triple threat main event of No Mercy PPV on October 9th. He is scheduled to take hiatus once again and hence not supposed to pick up the win.

However, upon return, there are some big plans around him. As per reports from CageSideSeats.com, Cena is either facing The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33 or winning his record 16th WWE World Championship. Hence from 2017 onwards, he is supposed to be back on the winning track starting from the Royal Rumble PPV following it with the Fastlane PPV.

These wins will pave the way to square off against the Undertaker at the grandest stage or finally pick up the much-anticipated singles win against The Phenomenal One, AJ Styles. One of the two matches is going to happen at next year's Wrestlemania and the planning would start once Cena returns after filming the American Grit's next season.
