Virginia, Sep 12: For the first time since the year 2009, WWE Backlash came our way from the Coliseum of Richmond, Virginia with the first-ever brand specific PPV.
Smackdown got the first opportunity to conduct the returning Backlash PPV to showcase their talents.
The main event was a must watch since the “new face that runs the place” clashed against Dean Ambrose for the championship belt. Here are results from the night.
Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz (Intercontinental Championship)
The Miz was all fired up even before the match and talked trash to the Smackdown General Manager, Daniel Bryan before the match. The Miz tried with his everything to put Ziggler down in the match but remained unsuccessful. In the end, he had no choice but to take help from his wife, Maryse. She sprayed something into Ziggler’s eyes and Miz escaped with the title.
Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt
The match never happened since Bray attacked Randy in the backstage. Randy legitimately hurt his knees and hence Bray was forfeited for the win. However, Demon Kane was waiting for him in a No Holds Barred match. Randy showed to deliver an RKO to Wyatt and then Kane finished off the job with a devastating chokeslam.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship tournament
The Usos defeated the Hype Bros to advance into the final. However, they were unable to topple the team of Slater and Rhyno. The later connected with his pendant gore to pick up the win and becoming the first-ever Smackdown tag team champion
Six-Pack Elimination Challenge for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
It was contested in an elimination capacity. Alexa Bliss was the one to get eliminated first. Naomi was trapped into a sharpshooter as the next. Nattie followed her with Nikki Bella’s new finishing maneuver. Carmella rolled her up from the back to eliminate Nikki to the crowd’s shock. In the end, it was Becky Lynch who held the Smackdown Women’s title by eliminating Carmella.
AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose (WWE World Championship)
At the end of the night, we have got the new face that runs the place. AJ Styles went to a vicious encounter with Ambrose. Styles tried everything only to be countered by the Lunatic. In the end, Styles hit a low blow to the former champion when the referee was distracted and thus got hold to his first major championship in the WWE.
