Manaus (Brazil), June 25: Switzerland's Xherdan Shaqiri scored the second hat-trick of the 2014 World Cup against Honduras at the Arena da Amazônia here on Wednesday. It was also the 50th hat-trick in the World Cup finals.

The first hat-trick of this World Cup was scored by Germany's Thomas Mueller against Portugal on June 16.

Here is a look at some interesting facts about ha-tricks in Fifa World Cups:

Bert Patenaude of the USA was the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup match (against Paraguay in 1930).

Four players have scored hat-tricks in the World Cup and they are Sandor Kocsis of Hungary (1954), Just Fontaine of France (1958), Gerd Muller of Germany (1970) and Gabriel Batistuta of Argentina (in 1994 and 1998).

Batistuta is the only player to have scored hat-tricks in two World Cups and both were scored against debutants (Greece and Jamaica, respectively) and on June 21 of the year.

Oleg Salenko of Russia scored the most number of goals in a match, including a hat-trick (five against Cameroon in 1994)

Guillermo Stabile of Argentina scored a hat-trick on his international debut (in 1930 WC).

A Swiss scored a World Cup hat-trick after 60 years, this time to win

Josef Hugi of Switzerland (1954) and Igor Belanov of the erstwhile Soviet Union (1986) scored hat-tricks for the losing side. The hat-trick scored by Shaqiri on Wednesday will reverse Switzerland's record and give their supporters a reason to smile.

Geoff Hurst of England is the only player to have a scored a hat-trick in World Cup final. He achieved this feat against the then West Germany in 1966. It was also the longest hat-trick to be completed in a World Cup match.

Pele became the youngest player to score a hat-trick at the age of 17 years and 244 days.
