This was fourth successive loss for Portugal against Germany in major tournaments. They had been defeated in 2006 World (third place match), 2008 and 2012 European Championships.

The 29-year-old Ronaldo stormed past reporters after the match, news agency "AFP" reported.

"Three players are down to talk to the media and I am not of them," he was quoted as saying after requests from reporters in the mixed zone.

Thomas Mueller scored a hat-trick as Germany made a rousing start to their World Cup campaign.

Despite injuries in recent times, Ronaldo played full 90 minutes but failed to get on the scoresheet. This was Ronaldo's 112th international game and failed to score his 50th goal.

Portugal face United States of America next on June 22 followed by Ghana on June 26 to complete Group stage.
