Virat Kohli to PV Sindhu: Best wishes for Rio Olympics 'epic battle', bring gold

Bengaluru, Aug 19: India's Test cricket captain Virat Kohli has sent his wishes to badminton player PV Sindhu for her "epic clash" against world number one Carolina Marin in the Rio Olympics 2016 final tonight.

Yesterday (August 18), 21-year-old Sindhu scripted history by entering the final of women's singles event in Rio de Janeiro.

Sindhu defeated Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-10 in the semi-finals. Sindhu, the Hyderabad girl, is the first Indian to reach the gold medal match in badminton in Olympic history.

Wishes poured in from thousands of Indians on social media for Sindhu ahead of her final against Spaniard Marin on Friday (August 19).

Kohli, who is playing in the 4th Test against West Indies in Port of Spain, took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to send a video message to Sindhu.

On his Twitter page, Kohli conveyed his wishes to Sindhu, congratulated her for the semi-final win and called her a "champion".

"Hi PV Sindhu, I want to congratulate you for guaranteeing India its first silver medal at (Rio) Olympics. You have made the country so so proud. Tomorrow it is going to be an epic battle. It is going to be an epic clash.

"So, I wish you all the best, all the way from here in the West Indies. I hope you bring gold for the country but nonetheless whatever happens you are a champion. And I send you all the power and all the wishes. Good luck to you. Jai Hind," Kohli said.

India's head coach Anil Kumble too sent in a video message to Sindhu, via Twitter. He wished Sindhu on behalf of the team, from Port of Spain.
