New Delhi, May 16: India's star wrestler Sushil Kumar moved the Delhi High Court, on Monday, seeking to hold trials for the 74kg class to secure a berth in the Indian wrestling squad for the upcoming Rio Olympics.
Sushil Kumar took bronze in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and then silver in London in 2012 in the 66kg division but this was abolished by the International Wrestling Federation (FILA) in 2014.
This prompted the two-time Olympic medallist to move up to the 74kg weight category which brought him into direct competition with Narsingh Yadav, who was the top Indian wrestler in this class till then. Sushil Kumar missed the qualification for Rio Olympics due to injury, and Narsingh Yadav was able to secure the quota for representing the country.
Sushil is demanding a trial between the two wrestlers, while Narsingh has maintained he has won the quota for representing India.
Amid all this war of words between two of India's finest wrestlers, here's what people over social media are saying:
It's not fair .
If there are trials it's not fair . .
Narsingh Yadav EARNED THE QUOTA OLYMPIC IS HIS RIGHT ...
Sushil Kumar it's no ur time
It's not fair .
When u had to play qualifying event & Pro Wrestling League, u were not fit. Now u r fit to snatch Narsingh Yadav 's Olympic quota.
