New Delhi, Mar 13: After being the first Indian golfer to defend av European tour title, Shivprasad Chawrasia also defended the Indian Open championship this year.
On Sunday, March 12, after winning the championship for the second consecutive time, SSP Chowrasia, speaking from Gurgaon had all praise for his wife Simantani.
The elated champion said: “Simantani is that lady who probably is more passionate for golf. During the off-season when I train, Simantani is my unofficial coach.
"She takes a note of my each and every shot, my body movement and even she has earned the mastery of my club swing.
"She can even rectify my swing and guide me about the course much before the tournament starts.
"Last year also, Simantani was beside me in the Indian open. This year also, she has given me encouragement in each and every moment during the championship. I am dedicating my title to my wife.”
Last year Chowrasia won the title, defeating another ace Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri in the final round. This year Lahiri finished fifth.
Lahiri has already sent wishes to his colleague saying: “Congratulations for keeping the trophy in our country. I am now waiting for the next year’s fight against you.”
Chowrasia defeated Gevin Green in the final round this year in the tournament. Commenting on his performance, the golfer from Kolkata added: “This year, the golf course was new. One of the famous designers in the world, Gary Player had designed the course.
"Last year the tournament was played in New Delhi. That is why this time I did not experiment with the game.
"Simantani also advised me to concentrate on playing straight shots rather than trying to depend on swinging. I have followed the way.”
Chowrasia received the award of maintaining his plans. He defeated Green with a distance of seven shots in a one-sided final round.
