Sania Mirza silences critics, reveals how does it feel to be World No 1

Hyderabad, April 13: Sania Mirza finally silenced her critics by achieving the World No 1 rank in Tennis. She is first female Indian playerachieved the world number one rank in doubles.

Sania along with her partner Martina Hingis won the WTA Family Circle Cup on Sunday, April 12. The top-seeded Indo-Swiss pair blew away the challenge of Casey Dellacqua and Darija Jurak 6-0 6-4 in just 57 minutes in the lop-sided final of the USD 731,000 clay court event.

Sania, who always makes headlines in the country, finally broke her silence while writing on micro-blogging site Twitter. The young tennis player, who is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik said she "is blessed".

A day after her historic victory, she tweeted, "On top of the world. #whataday #blessed #thankyou #keepworking". She also shared rankings of all top players both in single and double.


Sania took 470 points from the win to take her tally to 7965 as she jumped past Italy's Sara Errani (7640) and Roberta Vinci (7640) to sit atop the ranking table.
