Saina Nehwal regains World No. 1 rank; Jwala-Ashwini climb to 10th

Bengaluru, Aug 20: India's ace shuttler Saina Nehwal has returned to the top of the women's singles world rankings despite losing the World Championships final to Spain's Carolina Marin on Sunday (August 16).

The badminton world rankings, which were updated today (August 20), saw Saina moving up to number 1 from 2. Carolina has slipped one place from the top. (Thought of quitting: Saina)

Saina, the 2012 London Olympics Bronze medallist, now has 82,792 points. Carolina has a total of 80,612 points. Last week, Saina became the first Indian to get a silver medal at World Championships.

There was also good news for India in the women's doubles as Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa moved to number 10 from 12.

In the men's singles, Parupalli Kashyap gained 2 places to be at 8th while Kidambi Srikanth lost one position to be at 4th.
