Bengaluru, Feb 26: India's top-ranked doubles player Rohan Bopanna today (February 26) announced the launch of his tennis academy in Bengaluru.
Rohan Bopanna Tennis Academy (RBTA) is the new venture which was unveiled by Bopanna on Friday, via the micro-blogging site Twitter.
"It all starts at the very beginning. Proud to announce new venture #ReadyToServe #RBTA," the 35-year-old Bopanna tweeted today.
According to the academy's website, RBTA brings a "refreshing
new dimension to tennis coaching in India". The academy will
officially start next month (March 2016).
"Founded by India's leading doubles tennis star, Rohan Bopanna, the Academy is focused on enabling holistic development of athletes and grass roots development of the game.
"With an international children's tennis coach overseeing the programme and special inputs from a globally qualified fitness trainer, RBTA introduces a balanced curriculum - with equal emphasis on fitness and sports skills, to young children looking to play tennis, it added.
The academy boasts of "international standard curriculum" focusing on grass roots development. "A tennis academy with an international standard curriculum enabling grass roots development of the sport in Bengaluru, India," the academy's portal further said.
RBTA offers 2 levels of coaching programmes to children between 4 and 14 years. The unique curriculum has been planned by Bopanna, who is ranked 8th in doubles in the world, in conjunction with RBTA Mentor Coach - Pietie Norval, an acclaimed coach with over a decade's experience of training children in South Africa.
The programme includes active and regular involvement from both Pietie and Rohan. Pietie will be present at the Academy regularly while Rohan will interact with the children and parents once in two months, imparting invaluable mentorship and tips. The day to day programme at RBTA is managed by a team of experienced coaching staff, selected by Rohan and Pietie.
Located on a 3-acre property in Yelahanka, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, RBTA offers four high quality, clay tennis courts; a fitness training track and an extensive range of training equipment.
The academy has laid special importance on training for young children and offers mini-tennis and specialised training tennis balls that are suitable for kids as young as 4 years.
