Kolkata, Nov 24: Dipa Karmakar, who is famous for her branded Produnova vault, is not being able to resume training of Produnova due to the lack of adequate infrastructure in at her training centre in Agartala.
Historic 4th for Dipa at Rio Olympics
Dipa has resumed training for around last two weeks at the gymnastics centre in Agartala as according to her coach Bisheswar Nandy. Dipa has been training for around three hours a day, but for once only in the evening. The training schedule has been made in a way where Dipa is doing fitness training and practicing other events except vault.
Dipa, while speaking from Agartala on Wednesday (November 23) said, "The key difficulty I have been facing is that there is no foam pit around the vault table. Unless the foam pit is laid I cannot practice Produnova. I learned after returning from Rio that this foam pit would be installed within couple of months. But even two months after my return, foam pit has not reached yet." (Dipa wants cash instead of BMW car)
It is not that Dipa will have to go to participate in any international championship immediately. She was supposed to take part in Challengers' Cup in Germany last month.
But as there was no green signal from Gymnastics Federation of India regarding the tour, Dipa had to cancel the trip. Now she seems to have set her focus on World Championship, to be held in October 2017 in Canada.
And at the same time, Dipa seems in a dilemma about whether she would continue with the same Produnova or introduce the new vault comprising a mixture of Produnova and self created new vault.
The reason behind the thought according to her coach, "Produnova's points in the difficulty section are going to reduce. Naturally, we will also have to think otherwise. But we have to take the decision soon as we have only 11 months' time."
Simultaneously, Dipa's coach also informed, "I have personally taken initiative for the foam pit, sending appeal letters to the state government as well as SAI centre in New Delhi. I hope it will come soon."
Dipa created history at the Rio Olympics in Brazil by finishing 4th in the vault final. No Indian had previously qualified for the final.
