Rio de Janeiro, Aug 21: After witnessing 19 days of competition amongst 11000 athletes fighting for the podium finish and some witnessing historic moments across various sports, the Rio Olympics 2016 will finally come to an end tonight.
The closing ceremony of the quadrennial event will begin on Sunday as Rio will bid adiue to biggest sporting spectacle and handover the baton to Tokyo for Olympic Games in 2020.
The athletes from all the participating nations, for one last time, will gather at the Rio de Janeiro's Marcana Stadium to say 'Good bye'.
Here is your guide to the Olympics Closing Ceremony
When is the Closing Ceremony and what time does it start?
The Games will be officially close at a glittering ceremony in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium, which has a capacity of 74,738. The Opening Ceremony starts at 8:00 PM Local Time on August 21 (Sunday). However, with a big time difference, it will be 4.30 AM (August 22, Monday) in India when the ceremony begins.
Carnival-inspired Closing Ceremony:
Rio will host a Carnival-inspired Closing Ceremony with dance, music and song. There will also be a special section from Tokyo 2020. South America's Pop sensation Kygo to perform at closing ceremony.
And Rio's Mayor Eduardo Paes will pass the Olympic flag to Tokyo Governor, Yuriko Koike, ahead of the closing ceremony in traditional gesture ahead of Tokyo 2020 Games.
Sakshi Malik to carry India's flag:
Wrestler Sakshi Malik, who opened India's account at the Rio Olympics with a bronze medal in the women's 58 kilogram freestyle category, will be carrying the flag at the closing ceremony on Sunday (Aug 21).
Which TV channel will telecast the Opening Ceremony in India?
Star Sports network (Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and also High Definition channels) will broadcast the Closing Ceremony and has also got the rights to show all the other sports events during the Olympics. Commentary will be available both in Hindi and English.
