Bengaluru, March 9: This past Sunday at the Fastlane PPV, Goldberg featured in a championship match against Kevin Owens.

The bout marked the end of KO’s 188-day title reign that he was handed by Triple H after the Summerslam PPV.

Initially, Owens avoided going toe-to-toe with the Myth inside the ring by strolling around the ringside. But, Chris Jericho’s music hit the arena to distract him.

Goldberg took the opportunity to hit him with a spear and followed it with a jackhammer to pin him as quick as that.

By virtue of this, Goldberg had another squash match which saw him compete in just a mere 22 seconds.

Now, WWE has some strong reasons as of why they did not book Goldberg to feature in a lengthy match.

The issue was noted by Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Newsletter where he said that the creative was concerned over Goldberg’s physical condition heading into the title match.

Considering that his age is 50 plus, they do not want to take risks with the former WCW franchise keeping in mind the botch-factor.

Plus, they don’t want to get him hurt before heading into Wrestlemania where he is all set to main event the night with Brock Lesnar.

WWE is basically trying to protect Goldberg from every risk factor since they want him to stick around as long as possible. The fans have questioned his ability to stay in the ring for a longer time, in the past.

The company does not want to convert that answer into a negative one and hence the current Universal champion has not competed in the ring for more than two or three minutes.

Furthermore, the squash match is supposed to take forward the Mick Foley-Stephanie McMahon storyline.

Prior to the match, the commissioner instructed Foley to be cautious about the Owens-Goldberg match considering that Owens is a “Triple H” guy.

Foley did not follow it for sure which led Jericho to interfere in the match and Owens losing the title. Meltzer told that this might be brought on television at a certain point by which Stephanie would fire the general manager in the time of Wrestlemania.
