Rio de Janeiro, Aug 18: India's ace shuttler PV Sindhu today (August 18) created history by reaching the women's singles badminton final at Rio Olympics 2016.
The Indian registered a thumping victory against Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-10 in the semi-finals on Thursday. (PV Sindhu storms into Women's Singles Final)
A win against Okuhara has assured Sindhu of at least a silver, that would be only the second medal for India at the Games. The Indian shuttler will now face World No. 1 Carolina Marine in the finals.
People were glued to their TV sets to watch Sindhu create history even as Team India locked horns with West Indies in the fourth and final Test match.
Twitter exploded with congratulatory message after Sindhu's historic victory. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan hailed Sindhu's achievement.
Here's who said what:

Sakshi & Sindhu, you have alleviated the sullen, despondent -- and in some people, cynical -- mood of the nation. Thanks! #Rio2016— Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) August 18, 2016
