Bengaluru, Aug 3: London Olympics 2012 was the most memorable edition for India as the country had 6 medals.

India has never performed highly at the Olympic games. The track record suggests that the country has only 26 Olympic medals in 112 years and 30 games.
Out of the sad and sorry state of India at the games, London Olympics clearly was a ray of bright light and also road guide to a better and brighter future. India ranked 55th in the medal's tally.

Sushil Kumar was the flag bearer of the Indian contingent at the London Olympics 2012. He had won a bronze medal in the previous edition and expectations were high. He cruised past all the rounds with ease to reach the finals. Unfortunately Japanese wrestler Yonemetsu was too good for the Indian star and he settled for a silver medal.
Saina Nehwal was seeded third at the competition and the entire nation expected a medal from the youngster. Saina didn't disappoint completely as she won a bronze medal, first woman shuttler to do so.
Mary Kom came to London Olympics as 5 times World boxing championship and a lot was expected from the boxer. Mary Kom cruised passed all the rounds but unfortunately lost in the semi-final settling for a bronze.
Gagan Narang had participated in 3 categories but managed to bag a bronze medal only in the 10 m air rifle category.
Yogeshwar Dutt had claimed the bronze medal in the Men's freestyle 60 kg wrestling category. The Indian wrestler defeated North Korean Ri Jong-Myong in the bronze medal bout.
Vijay Kumar was the only other silver medalist among the Indians at the London Olympics 2012. He won the medal in the Men's 25 m rapid fire pistol category.
