The 31st Olympic games will see a total of 207 nations are participating this time. India has the biggest Olympic contingent with 120 athletes being sent this time by the Indian Olympic Association. [6 best moments from the Rio Olympics 2016 opening ceremony]
This is also the biggest contingent ever sent by India. In London 2012, India had 83 members. The 120 member team was led by flag bearer and the only individual gold medal winner in history of the country Abhinav Bindra.
Some of the best Indian sportspersons where present at the ceremony which includes the Indian Women's hockey team, shuttlers Ashwini Ponappa, Jwala Gutta and PV Singhu.
Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar too was present in the gallery to back his country.
The notable names missing from the ceremony was Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza who have a match to play later today.
